Created by actress Chase Masterson (Star Trek, The Flash) with author Carrie Goldman (Harper Collins’ Bullied: What Every Parent, Teacher, and Kid Needs to Know About Ending the Cycle of Fear), the unprecedented Coalition is the 1st-ever organization to make a stand against bullying, racism, LGBT-bullying, cyber-bullying, misogyny and other forms of hate at comic-cons.

“In the wake of events in Charleston, Ferguson, NYC, Baltimore, Cleveland, Sanford, Los Angeles and a mind-boggling number of incidents that never even get reported, and in celebration of victory for Marriage Equality, the time is ripe for genre fans to unite and create the same type of culture IRL as we revere onscreen,” says Masterson. “That of human rights and justice.”
“In our digitalized, media-driven society, pop culture has a constant influence on the way that both children and adults interpret the world. When kids see celebrities take action against bullying, it resonates strongly and sends the message that cruelty is not acceptable,” says Goldman.

The Coalition is rebranding from it’s original name, Pop Culture Anti-Bullying Coalition, in order to embrace a wider mission of leading a movement of heroism. Internationally renowned heroism expert Matt Langdon, Founder of the Hero Roundtable and The Hero Construction Company, joins the new entity and states, "I'm so excited to be part of this group, this Justice League, that aims to bring everyday heroism to the people who love to read about it.”
“We love pop culture stories for a reason: because deep down, we hear the call to do heroic things, not just watch them,” continues Masterson, who serves on the Advisory Board of the United Nations Association San Diego. “To stand up for the powerless. To create a platform for the voiceless. To recognize every human being has the same innate value and rights as any other. That’s what this genre is about.”

“We’re proud to partner with geek-favorite Clinical Psychologists such as Dr. Janina Scarlet, author of the upcoming Superhero Therapy, and Dr. Andrea Letamendi, Host of The Arkham Sessions,” enthuses Masterson. “We’re working with them to help fans find strategies, support, healing and answers.”
United Nations Association San Diego President Bettina Hausmann concludes, “It is a human right to live lives free of hate, violence, and ignorance -- the three legs of the bullying stool. It takes dedicated individuals like Chase Masterson and Carrie Goldman, who tirelessly volunteer to promote this important cause, to unite us to stand up against bullying and discrimination. We, the UNA-USA San Diego are proud to support their invaluable works with and through the Pop Culture Hero Coalition.”
In addition to the United Nations Association and NoH8 Campaign, Coalition Partners include the Anti-Defamation League, Cartoon Network’s Stop Bullying: Speak Up, CW Seed’s HusbandsGLSEN, Girl Scouts of America, Brave Girls Alliance and the International Bullying Prevention Association.
“We love superheroes,” states Masterson. “Why not be one?”
