DeAgostini Launches VW Samba Van Subscription Build-Up Kit for North America

DeAgostini, a premier European-based collectibles brand, celebrates one of the world’s most beloved and instantly recognizable vehicles – the Volkswagen Samba (“Microbus”) van – in a highly detailed 1:8 scale partwork model.

Capture the spirit of the freewheeling ‘60s and ‘70s with this exact-scale replica of the Volkswagen T1 Samba van. Made almost entirely of metal and featuring an unmatched level of detail, car and pop culture fans will enjoy assembling and displaying the iconic Volkswagen Transporter / Microbus in its 23-window Samba Bus version with a characteristic two-tone red and white paintjob. The completed model measures 21 inches long by 9.6 inches high.

Enjoy each stage of the build with a new set of parts delivered monthly and learn all about the history of the Samba as construction progresses with an informative magazine that accompanies each shipment.

Step-by-step illustrated instructions make assembly simple and fun. Ready to assemble metal parts are created using the most modern design and manufacturing techniques to ensure a perfect fit for each component.

The DeAgostini Volkswagen Samba features incredible detail and functional parts:

Realistic interior – All interior fittings of the Bus are accurately recreated, from the dashboard to the spare wheel. The seat upholstery features the textures and colors of the original T1 model. The finishings of the door panels, the interior of the body, and the dashboard are identical to those of the original vehicle.

Functional accessories - Everything works as on the real vehicle: the seats fold, the doors and gas panel open and there is a functional fabric sunroof. Two period correct suitcases and a surfboard accent the model, adding an authentic touch of leisure and adventure.

Functional steering - The comprehensive steering mechanism enables the front wheels to turn with the steering wheel. The wheels feature metal rims and realistic tires, reproducing the Bus’s original tread design, sidewall markings and chrome hubcaps featuring the VW logo.

Functional headlights - The head and taillights turn on, just like the real vehicle.

Working windows - The side windows work just like the original, sliding open and closed, adding another layer of detail to the model.

Eye-catching color - The color of the Bus is inspired by the original paintjob of the VW Samba Bus displayed at the Auto Museum Volkswagen in Wolfsburg.

Subscribers to the VW Samba kit will receive a variety of gift items at various stages throughout the build such as a pair of 1:43 scale metal models of the T1 Kombi Deluxe and T2 passenger vans, a retro metal mug featuring the T1 Samba, a stylish toolbox to store screws and mounting accessories for the model and 3 full-color, frame-ready posters of the T1 and T2 vans. The kit is available via subscription exclusively through DeAgostini.
