REVIEW: Ozobot Evo & Black Widow Action Skin

We were given the opportunity to review and test the Ozobot Evo and the newly released Black Widow Action Skin from Ozobot. We love trying out new and innovative products. Ozobot Evo is a small social robot that helps you to learn coding as well as having fun with various Marvel Avengers Action Skins. We'll have more info on the Marvel Action Skins later in this review.

We're going to start with the packaging of the Ozobot Evo. The external area of the box has details on how to play, create and explore. It never hurts to have as much information of instructions on how to use the Ozobot Evo.

Definitely feeling the box design. To open the Ozobot Evo, it has a door/flap that you'll pull down which is on the front of the box. It opens up differently than what you'd expect. Different and clever and they use the space inside very wisely too! Love the different doors/storage areas that are holding different things.

Closeup of the doors which as you can see by looking at the symbols on each door, you can sort of guess what's inside. The first door contains a semi-translucent white skin for the Evo. Pictured below:

The next door hold a storage pouch for your Evo, USB cable wire and a small instruction sheet

The final door contains a set of 4 markers which is to be used for coding. The main colors are red, green, blue and black.

Once you open the Ozobot Evo's package, you'll see this pretty thick pack of instructions on how to use the Evo. At first glance, it may look like there's a lot of instructions to work this but it's not. This also comes with a the Experience Pack which teaches you step by step on how use Evo as well as learn to code.

We'll dive into this a bit more later in this post. Now once we have seen everything and taken almost everything out of the box. The last thing to take out is Evo.

This can be a bit tricky to take out but it's definitely a clever way to package this. There is a plastic tab that says pull here so pull it straight out first, then lift the top plastic case so you can open it and take out Evo.

This is Evo when taken out of the box. Pictures show the front and back of Evo. It has sensors on both sides and the back has a USB so you can connect it to the USB cable that it came with to charge it.

We've unpacked everything that is inside the Ozobot Evo package. This set also comes with Experience Pack which will teach you the basics of how to use Evo, explore and have fun learning to code. The Experience Pack also comes with stickers and cardboard cut-outs to customize your Evo.

This video shows us trying out Evo after we took it out of the box. You can hear all the sounds that it makes and if you cover certain sensors it will make different noises as to show your its reaction.

Now this becomes more fun when you add Action Skins to your Evo. Ozobot has released different Marvel Avengers Action Skins which has their own sayings but if you have more than one Evo with different Avengers Skins, they can interact with each other.

Below is more pictures of the Black Widow Action Skin Packaging. The Black Widow Skin was just released a couple of weeks ago.

The Black Widow Skin also comes with a clear stand so when you're not using it, you can simply put it on the clear stand to display it. It also comes with an instruction sheet on how to activate the skin once you place it on Evo.

This is the Black Widow skin taken out of the box and you can see both the front and back of it. The back has a USB plug so you would plug that into the Evo so you hear her talk and she has several sayings.
Basically you would plug Black Widow's USB into Evo and push the button you see on her back to activate her on or off.

You would need to download the Ozobot App in the App Store or Google Home depending on what type of Smart Phone you have. You don't need the App if you're going to be designing your own coding paths etc... What the app lets you do is control Evo through your phone via Bluetooth. So it's like a remote control toy using your smart phone. The picture above shows one screen of the app that can control the Black Widow Evo. You can freely drive it where ever you want without using coding markers or stickers.

Here's a little teaser of the Black Widow Action Skin. You can see the lights much better when it's dark.

These videos are just samples of what you can do with the Ozobot Evo and Black Widow Action Skin. Ozobot is constantly updating their apps. You can teach Evo new tricks and much more.

Ozobot Evo is very fun, challenging and a learning experience. These are great for anyone that wants to learn coding and to have fun. It's summer and kids are out of school. We would highly recommend this for kids as well as adults. It's never too late to learn something new. If you have 2 or more Evo robots, they will interact with each other.

We were pleasantly surprised at how fun this is. Evo is small but powerful. It has a personality all on its own. You can spend countless hours upon hours creating new tricks, obstacles and more with Evo. We are in the process of trying to create our own coding course and teaching our Evo new tricks. For us, we're going to have to practice getting our lines the same width and not overlap colors which does take some practice.

We highly recommend Ozobot's Evo and Black Widow Action Skin. We had so much fun with one, now we need a second one to see how they react coming face to face. Not only is this fun but it's very educational. If you're looking for a gift that's out of the box and different, get Ozobot's Evo. The packaging is really nice and innovative. Love the different compartment sections which looks like a little closet for your Ozobot Evo accessories.

The Ozobot Evo costs $99 and is available in 2 different colors, Titanium Black (the one we have) or Crystal White. The Marvel Avengers Action Skins costs $15 each. Black Widow is the latest one to be released. Also available is Hulk, Ultron, Captain America and Iron Man. You can purchase Evo HERE and the Marvel Action Skins HERE.

We would like to thank Ozobot for sending us their Evo and Black Widow Action Skin for us to review.
