Two of the summer’s biggest entertainment events – San Diego Comic-Con and Gen Con (Indianapolis) – will feature screenings of Halcyon Daze —The Final Voyages of Disney's Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser this year. The award-winning documentary will be shown as part of the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival 2026 and the Gen Con Film Festival 2026.
Halcyon Daze explores the evolution and impact of Disney’s most ambitious Star Wars experience to date, sharing insight into the immersive attraction’s creation, its thrilling live execution, and its uniquely resonating impact among fans who, however briefly, sailed the stars in their own personal Star Wars adventure.
San Diego Comic-Con attendees can view the film Thursday July 23, 2026 at 9:30 pm PDT in Grand 6, Marriott Marquis San Diego. Halcyon Daze shows at Gen Con Saturday August 1, 2026 at 3:30 pm EDT in Capital Ballroom III at the Westin Indianapolis.
"At its core, Halcyon Daze has always been about the people who made the experience possible and the community that found connection and meaning on the Starcruiser,” said director Carrie Coaplen, who shares her journey from casual fan to full-on fanatic throughout the course of the film. “It’s a thrill to bring the film to events like Comic-Con that are really about connecting fans with things they love.”
The feature length documentary, which was partially funded through a 2025 Kickstarter campaign, includes extensive inside-the-attraction footage, as well as interviews with its designers, actors, crew, industry experts, and fan community. The film has appeared at multiple festivals, including the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival, Indy Film Fest, and the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival, where it was awarded Best Fan Documentary. Halcyon Daze has also been named an official selection at the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation, and Technology, where it has been nominated for Most Innovative Documentary.
"I first got interested in the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser because of the way it leveraged game design, turning its guests into active participants," said lead researcher and producer Carly Kocurek. “Bringing the documentary to a gaming celebration like Gen Con feels a little like going back to the beginning of the project."
The Flyover Film Festival in Louisville, KY will also screen the film on August 1 at 5 pm at the Kentucky Science Center. Members of the film production team will attend all three screenings.
