CORALINE

Tuesday, August 24 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (local time)

From Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach) and based on the novella of the same name by author Neil Gaiman (Sandman), Coraline is a wondrous, thrilling, fun and suspenseful adventure. A young girl walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better. But when this wondrously off-kilter, fantastical adventure turns dangerous and her counterfeit parents try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to save her family and get back home.  The voice cast includes Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Ian McShane, Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French.  Produced by Henry Selick, Claire Jennings, Bill Mechanic and Mary Sandell.  Written for the screen and directed by Henry Selick.

The LAIKA Experience at SDCC 2017

The LAIKA Experience was one of the things we really wanted to see. With everything at SDCC, this was a 3-Hour wait and we were there early too. At least it wasn't an 8+ hour wait. This was the last day of SDCC and was a must see before we left San Diego.

If you ever get the chance to see the LAIKA Experience in your city or state, we highly recommend it, especially if you've wondered how Stop-Motion Animation is made. The sets to make these animated movies are so detailed and intricate. Just jaw dropping!

ParaNorman Comic-Con Panel with the Cast & Crew Interviews & a Sneak Peek of the Movie.
The expected talent is Kodi Smit-McPhee, Anna Kendrick, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, directors Chris Butler & Sam Fell and LAIKA CEO Travis Knight.   It will be moderated by Entertainment Weekly’s Dave Karger.
The Panel takes place Friday, July 13th in HALL H! Time is TBD.
The film is produced by Laika Entertainment, the same company behind CORALINE, and uses the same stop-motion animation.  Department Heads Georgina Hayns (head of model making), Deborah Cook (head of costume), Brian McLean (head of RP) and Production Designer Nelson Lowry will be on hand for interviews.

For those not attending the show, a PARANORMAN ice cream truck will be cruising the streets of the Gaslamp district offering free ice cream and giveaways to the public (Three Zombies and ParaNorman himself will be roaming the area as well)!

SYNOPSIS: PARANORMAN  is set in the town of Blithe Hollow, whose locals profit from mining the town’s history as the site, 300 years ago, of a famous witch hunt. 11-year-old Norman Babcock (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee) spends much of his days appreciating the finer points of scary movies and studying ghost lore. In fact, Norman is gifted with the ability to see and speak with the dead, such as his beloved grandmother (Elaine Stritch). Most days, he prefers their company to that of his flustered father (Jeff Garlin), spacey mother (Leslie Mann), and deeply superficial older sister Courtney (Anna Kendrick). At middle school, Norman dodges bullying Alvin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), confides in the impressionable Neil (Tucker Albrizzi), and tries to tune out his blowhard teacher Mrs. Henscher (Alex Borstein).

Norman is unexpectedly contacted by his odd uncle Prenderghast (John Goodman), who floors him with the revelation that a centuries-old witch’s curse is real and is about to come true, and that only Norman will be able to stop it from going into overdrive and harming the townspeople. Norman bravely summons up all that makes a hero – courage and compassion – as he finds his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.
