Famous Monsters Film Festival

The Famous Monsters Film Fest is brought to you by Famous Monsters of Filmland and Big WOW! ComicFest.
"We want your monster movies, your Sci-Fi epics, and your fantasies. We want your thrillers, chillers, and everything in between. Official entrants will be screened during the weekend of May 17th & 18th at Big Wow in San Jose, CA, one of the largest pop culture festivals in Northern California (just click around the site and check it out!). There will be special parties, prizes, and access for filmmakers. 

Categories will be broken down to reflect not only project length and format, there will be genre awards as well as production awards for cast and crew members. Here are the official entry categories:
Feature Film: Films over 60 minutes
Short Films: Films under 60 minutes
Screenplays: Short and Feature length screenplays
Animation: Short and Feature length animation (featuring more than 50% animated elements)


Top finishers in each category will receive prizes from our sponsors and—most importantly—will be featured in the August issue of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND. FM is one of the top selling independent magazines through Barnes and Noble as well as Diamond Distributors. The magazine has worldwide distribution with a subscribers list that includes some of entertainment's biggest names. FM has a long history of bringing new talent to the attention of the fans and we look forward to continuing that tradition with our FM Fest finalists.

The FM Fest at Big Wow is looking for films that are consistent with FM's legacy: horror, Sci-Fi, fantasy, suspense thriller, or anything just plain weird."

Japan's Heroes & Monsters Panel at Big WOW! ComicFest 2014

Japan's Hereoes & Monsters Panel is set for Saturday, May 17th from 3PM-4PM

August Ragone and his Kaiju crew will be hosting FM’s panel that will feature Kenpachiro Satsuma (Godzilla, ’84-’95), Bin Furuya (Ultraman), and Daisuke Ban (Kikaida,Inazuman). Each actor will tell their stories of how they came to embody these incredible roles, as well as take questions from the audience. - Room A


If you can't make it to Saturday's Panel, you get another chance on Sunday, May 18th from 2PM-3PM in Room C.

The Art of Kaiju & Master of Monster Panel - Saturday, May 17th  from 2PM-3PM.

Kaiju expert, FM guest editor, and author of the newly reprinted Eiji Tsuburaya: Master of Monster, August Ragone will be joined by Hugo Award-winning and FM cover artist Bob Eggleton to talk about how Japanese monsters have shaped Wester pop culture, influenced their personal and professional lives, and why character like Godzilla and Ultraman continue to be worldwide sensations. - Room B

The Batman Museum at Big WOW! ComicFest 2014

In Celebrating 75 Years of Batman, Big WOW! ComicFest will have the Batman Museum featuring 75 years of of original art, toys, posters and collectibles. Many items from the legendary Bill Morrison's Batman collection will be featured along with additional rarely seen comic art and an authentic full size working replica of the classic 1966 TV Batmobile.

Godzilla, Ultraman & KIKAIDA are Coming to Big Wow! ComicFest

The actors that played Godzilla, Ultraman & KIKAIDA will be in attendance at Big Wow! ComicFest this weekend.

Legendary Japanese actor Kenpachiro Satsuma, best known for portraying Godzilla from 1984-1995 (the Heisei era). Satoshi “Bin” Furuya will be making a rare appearance in the U.S. to attend this year’s festivities. He is best known for portraying the original Ultraman, where he donned the gray and red uniform on a weekly basis to save the universe from humanity’s greatest foes. Daisuke Ban, star of the classic series KIKAIDA and INAZUMAN will be in attendance at BIG WOW! this year to share his stories or portraying to of Japan's most iconic characters.

Neca's Nightmare on Elm Street Super Freddy SDCC 2014 Exclusive

Neca officially announced their first SDCC 2014 Exclusive which is A Nightmare on Elm Street Super Freddy Retro 8" Clothed Action Figure. This Freddy is from A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 5: The Dream Child and is the first time anyone has made this version. Super Freddy is limited to 5000 pieces and will cost $40. He is 8" tall and comes with fabric clothing.

Funko Announces SDCC Exclusive Hints, Pre-Buy & Fundays!

Funko announces their SDCC Exclusives (sort of) with hints for some most of their exclusives and Fundays!

If you're a fan of Funko, they've been holding a Fundays for quite a few years now which is Friday nights during SDCC. This year it will cost $70 per person.They are using Ticket Leap this year instead of previous years where you payed them directly. You can purchase your tickets, pre-buy all of their exclusives and view the hint list after the jump.


Mattel Reveals 3 SDCC 2014 Exclusives

Mattel has revealed 3 of their SDCC 2014 Exclusive so far. The first one they announced was Masters of the Universe Classics Hordak with Imp which will cost $30. You can only get Imp if you pre-order to pick up at SDCC or purchase at their booth at SDCC. You will not be able to get Imp even if you buy Hordak during their after SDCC sale. You have to attend SDCC in order to get Imp.

The next exclusive announced is DCU Classics Doomsday which stands over 9" tall and has 16 points of articulation. Doomsday comes in a custom window box that pays homage to the cover of Superman: The Man of Steel #18, the issue where he made his first full appearance. Doomsday will cost $35.

The 3rd exclusive announced is Monster High's Manny Taur & Iris Clops 2-pack for $40.

If you are attending SDCC, you'll be able to pre-order these Mattel Exclusive on June 24th. Mattel will be announcing more of their exclusive in the coming weeks. Stay Tuned!
