D23 Expo 2013 Recap

We recently attended the D23 Expo on Friday, August 9th 2013. We never attended the first 2 shows that was held previously and didn't know what to expect. We were only able to attend on Friday of the show. The show was filled with everything associated with Disney from Pixar to Marvel. There were exclusives and special events held throughout the 3-day show. This year they held a D23 Marathon where the finish line was at the front of the Anaheim Convention Center.

SDCC 2013 Free Stuff

Trying to round up what we got free from SDCC. There wasn't as much really "good" free stuff like previous years but we did manage to get some stuff.

Every attendee (well almost everyone) got a free WB Swag Bag. This year was a backpack type bag with removable cape.

SDCC 2013 Toy Haul - Zerofriends Ren & Stimpy T-Shirt

Ok, technically not a toy but this was probably the only non-toy purchased at SDCC besides freebies. Zerofriends released their Ren & Stimpy t-shirt at SDCC. They also had a pretty good size print. This shirt was a must have! This made SDCC so much better since we stopped by the Zero Friends booth on the last day of the con before we headed back home. Best surprise and find and SDCC. Hopefully they'll be making some smaller prints.
Inside the shirt!

SDCC 2013 Toy Haul - Funko Fun Days POP!

Funko Fun Days always happens on Friday night during SDCC. This was our first year going since we weren't able to make it the previous years due to schedule conflicts. This year we made it a priority to attend. We purchased tickets when Funko announced they were up to purchase. The good thing about this event is that you didn't need to have a SDCC ticket to go to Fun Days. Fun Days is put together by Funko for their fans. At Fun Days, you get to meet other Funko collectors and the Funko Staff. You get to chow down on food and get a drink ticket.

Funko also give you a Mystery Box of Fun as you see in the picture above. No one is allowed to open it until Brian (Funko Owner/President) tells you to. After everyone is settled down at their tables and finished eating Brian gives his speech on what is in the works for Funko. One thing that really stuck in my mind is the fact that Funko will be producing toys in Japan (Make toys like Super7, their booth neighbors at SDCC.) For now we're keeping our eyes open to see what/which figures they will be making in Japanese vinyl.

SDCC 2013 Toy Haul - Sanrio Hello Kitty Japanimation Plush

Sanrio made their first appearance at SDCC this year. Not only did they have a booth (Kitty-Chan Secret Space) but they had a pop-up shop set up (Hello Kitty Fashion Music Wonderland) outside in the Petco Interactive Zone. They had lots of different merchandise like pins, figures, purses, pillow, clothing etc.... They also had a billboard truck roaming the street with the Hello Kitty design plastered on the moving billboard with one of Hello Kitty's Lolita talking on the mic or waving to fans in the street. Hello Kitty was a huge theme in exclusives this year from not just having their own booth/pop-up shop with exclusives but also collaborations with Toynami/Capcom, Uglydolls, Funko, Viz Media etc.... Hopefully Sanrio will be back next year! :)

SDCC 2013 Toy Haul - Masters Of The Universe Classics Mini He-Man & Skeletor Figures

Mattel released their Master Of The Universe  Classics Mini He-Man & Skeletor figures at SDCC. The small scaled figures are great even for non-hardcore MOTU collectors. These are small enough so they don't take up too much space well unless you display them with the packaging inside this box. Don't know if there will be more mini figures down the road but there should be. Either way MOTU collectors were all over these no matter if they only made this set or more down the line.Check out more pics below:

SDCC 2013 Toy Haul - Despicable Me 2 Minion Dave Chara-Bricks

These were interesting pick-ups at SDCC. They had huge lifesize versions of the regular version of Dave on display which was an attention getter for sure along with versions of Iron Man & My Little Pony etc... These were sold at the Huckleberry Toys Booth. Regular Minion Dave is limited to 300pcs and GID Dave is limited to 50pcs. They are 7" tall. These are bigger versions of the Chara-Covers which they also had for sale. Minion Carl is coming soon! They had a prototype of him at SDCC.

SDCC 2013 Toy Haul - Uglydoll x Hello Kitty

Uglydoll teamed up with Sanrio and released their Uglydoll x Hello Kitty Plush etc... at SDCC. This was an instant hit at SDCC. Everything was pretty much gone by Saturday. The Large Plush set that you see above, clip on plush (pic below), iphone cases, t-shirts, pins were sold exclusively at the the show. They also released a limited version of a vinyl figure collaboration by Funko which sold out immediately at the show.
If you missed out on the SDCC exclusives, you can buy the 7" (medium size) Uglydoll x Hello Kitty plush at a retailer near you or through the Uglydoll or Sanrio online store.

SDCC 2013 Toy Haul - DC Nation x Aardman Superman Action Figure

One exclusive that could not be passed up is DC x Aardman's Superman Action Figure. Check out their DC Nation Short below:

If you like this there are more shorts that you can find on Youtube.

SDCC 2013 Toy Haul - Rotofugi

Here's what we picked up from Rotofugi at SDCC. We picked up 64 Colors' Mini Marshall, Chris Ryniak's Snybora & Coarse Toys' Omen Hoot & Hush. Rotofugi had quite a few exclusives for sale as well as customs & they even had a 1-Night Coarse Toys Show which unfortunately we forgot to go to.
